Veteran Nigerian actor, Kenneth Aguba, has reportedly been seen living in a shabby condition in Enugu state.
According to reports, the veteran actor has been rendered homeless for a long time, with his source of livelihood being umbrella repairs for his local vicinity.
The Nollywood veteran was spotted living in an open space outside a container shop in a condition that doesn’t befit his perceived status given his appearance on the screens.
Photos which surfaced on the internet showed Aguba sitting with what was left of his belongings in the make shift open air accommodation where is is said to have been living for sometime.
A social media user named Benjamin wrote: “He has been homeless since.
“Nollywood is a mess. I know this man since my childhood, he repairs umbrella for people. When they have a movie shoot , they will come and pick him in the market and use him.
“After every shooting, they pay him highest N2000. He use to entertain us whenever he comes to our shop, he is so funny and he tells joke.
“He use to tell us all his behind the scene experience and he said sometimes, they use to give him only food after acting.”
The Actors Guild of Nigeria are yet to make an official statement concerning Aguba’s case.
While the AGN is yet to react to Aguba’s viral photos, its national president, Emeka Rollas has made recent moves to address crowdfunding for veterans in distress.
Last month, the Guild introduced a Trust fund and HMO plan to aid members with health crisis. The Guild unveiled the fund committee led by veteran actress Joke Silva in a statement shared via its president Emeka Rollas.
“We also set up the AGN Trust Fund to help put a stop to the usual alms begging to raise funds to support our members in health crises. This was also to discourage the reprihensible manner some persons publicly gifts nollywood sick members financial aid. We consider these methods very embassing for an Industry that contributes so much to the country’s GDP,” an excerpt of the statement reads.
“To make these supports more civil, donors can mention specific person’s they wish to medically assist whilst depositing money to the Trust Fund account. The Trust Fund is in the hands of trusted Committee headed by Veteran Actor, Joke Silva.”
