The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into allegations of bribery involving its officers. Notably, the Nigerian celebrity Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, and social activist Martins Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan, have been summoned to assist with the probe. The allegations center on claims that Bobrisky allegedly paid N15 million to EFCC officials in exchange for dropping money laundering charges against her.

Bribery Allegations Emerge

The controversy began when VeryDarkMan took to social media to broadcast a video in which Bobrisky purportedly confessed to bribing EFCC officials. The video, widely circulated online, accused Bobrisky of paying a hefty sum of N15 million to have pending money laundering charges dropped. The claim has since triggered a swift reaction from the EFCC, which promptly launched an official investigation to address the bribery allegations.

A statement issued by Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the EFCC, confirmed the commission’s commitment to a transparent investigation. “In response to these serious allegations, we have constituted a dedicated team of investigators to look into the claims,” Olukoyede announced, underscoring the EFCC’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption within its ranks. He also emphasized that both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan are expected to cooperate fully with the investigation by appearing before the commission’s Lagos Directorate.

In the wake of the video’s release, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale disclosed that Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan had officially been invited to aid in the investigation. Both individuals are expected to provide crucial evidence and clarify their roles in the allegations. “The EFCC wishes to assure the public that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and the results will be made public,” the commission stated.

Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, had previously been involved in legal controversies. She was released from prison in August 2024 after serving part of a six-month sentence handed down in April for the misuse of the Nigerian currency. Her connection to bribery accusations adds another layer to her public persona, often marked by controversy and media attention.

VeryDarkMan, on the other hand, is a social activist known for his vocal stance on corruption and societal issues. His involvement in the bribery case, particularly in publicizing Bobrisky’s alleged confession, has raised questions about the extent of his role in bringing the matter to light.

The EFCC’s decision to pursue an internal investigation and involve both public figures reflects its broader efforts to combat corruption within Nigeria’s law enforcement system. “The commission is dedicated to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that no individual, regardless of their status, is above it,” Oyewale reaffirmed.

As investigations continue, many are keenly following developments, awaiting further details and the eventual findings of the probe. Both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan have yet to publicly comment on the EFCC’s invitation. However, the allegations have drawn considerable attention across media platforms, reigniting conversations about corruption and the integrity of Nigerian institutions.
