Brazil Coach Urges Patience as Neymar Return from Injury Faces Delays

Brazil’s coach, Dorival Junior, has emphasized the need for patience regarding Neymar’s return to international football. Neymar, who suffered a major knee injury in October 2023, is still not ready for competition, despite recovering from surgery. As a result, he will miss Brazil’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Peru.

Neymar’s injury occurred while representing Brazil, during which he ruptured his meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament. The forward underwent surgery shortly after and began his rehabilitation. However, despite returning to training with Al Hilal in July 2024, Neymar has not made his competitive return to the field. Al Hilal coach, Jorge Jesus, has confirmed that the 32-year-old is still unfit to play.

Dorival Junior addressed the situation on Friday, stating, “We know how important Neymar is, but we need to be patient. Whether he returns in October, November, or February, what matters is that he fully recovers and gains confidence in his abilities again.”

Brazil Without Neymar in Crucial Qualifiers

Brazil is preparing to face Chile on October 10 in Santiago, followed by a home match against Peru on October 15 in Brasilia. The team has struggled in recent months, with only 10 points from eight qualifiers. Four of their past five matches ended in losses, placing them fifth in the standings, just one point ahead of Paraguay. Neymar’s absence has been felt deeply as the Selecao aims to secure their spot in the 2026 World Cup.

In Neymar’s absence, Dorival has called up a host of talented players, including Barcelona winger Raphinha and Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli. Real Madrid’s attacking trio of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Endrick will also provide options upfront, as Brazil looks to bounce back from a difficult stretch.

Neymar’s Importance to Brazil

Neymar has been central to Brazil’s footballing identity for more than a decade. His creativity, vision, and goal-scoring ability have made him a crucial asset for the national team, as well as clubs like Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in the past. His absence due to injury has created a void, but the Brazilian coaching staff understands the importance of allowing him to fully recover before his return.

Brazil is eager for Neymar’s return, but Dorival’s comments reflect a broader understanding within the team that rushing him back prematurely could have long-term consequences. The coach concluded, “He must return only when he is physically and mentally ready. His recovery must be complete for him to help us reach our goals.”

While Neymar’s road to recovery has been long, his return is eagerly awaited, and Brazil remains hopeful for his eventual comeback.
