Flood displaces 200 families in Rivers community.

200 families are displaced by flooding in the Rivers community.Flooding has forced more than 200 households to relocate from the Rumaholu-Nkpolu Pipeline Area in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

As a result of the catastrophic floods that ruined everything in their homes, the inhabitants claimed that snakes and other reptiles were emerging.

The impacted residents claimed that after some persons allegedly constructed homes on the waterways, they had their first flooding incident in 2017.One of the impacted residents, Thomas, told reporters on Tuesday that every time floods happened, they would wait for the water to subside outside their homes for roughly seven months.

This year, however, they left their homes right away when they noticed snakes emerging from the water. He stated, “If you follow me now into each house that had been abandoned, you will find about six snakes.Snakes will be visible at night if you don’t have a lamp, especially when you’re coming down from a stairway.

Most of us fled because we nearly stepped on the snakes at times. The Rivers State Government is being urged to assist in the construction of an underground drainage system in this region. With tears in her eyes, she added, “We paddle into our houses using boats.”200 families are displaced by flooding in the Rivers community.

This year, however, they left their homes right away when they noticed snakes emerging from the water.

She also lamented the fact that thieves had broken into their homes after they had been gone from them because of the floods, and she said the state government should assist them in addressing the root causes of the flooding so they could return to their homes.

“We locked the place and left the house,” she said. However, they stole everything from my residence before we returned. We are simply beginning the process anew.

The Rivers State Government was urged to put the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning’s suggestions from a few years ago into effect by Kalu Chukwuma, the chairman of the Landlords Association in Rumaholu-Nkpolu, Pipeline Area.

In accordance with recommendations, Chukwuma also suggested that the water be appropriately directed to the appropriate canals.”Check for yourself; you can see that many houses, even multi-story buildings, are affected,” he said.

Despite the careful planning, nobody was aware of what transpired in this area.Given that this did not occur until 2017, it is possible that some regions have been prohibited without our knowledge.Perhaps the government could help us unlock the area or redirect the water to an other location.

The worst part is that snakes begin to emerge from the earth when the water level is high.We have transported a few people to hospitals, particularly our neighbors who are alone and in need of assistance.
