Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has appealed to his supporters to remain tolerant of people who do not embrace the OBIDIENT movement or accept their opinion of him.

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the Peter Obi’s, OBIDIENT movement has swept through the social media space like wildfire and has come to gain traction as the days go by.

However, the social media space has been quite hot as many now thread with caution with hopes of not getting lashed based on the utterance of a perceived wrong comment or an unacceptable opinion of Peter Obi.

It has been quite the fight on social media as many have claimed to have fallen victim to the pro Peter Obi supporters among others who have openly come out to complain about the way the OBIDIENT campaigners have attacked them because of their contrasting political opinion, one of such persons is the former presidential aide to former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Reno Omokri.

Omokri has in recent times tried to call to order the Obi supporters as he claims that their actions and reactions to people on the social media space who have picked and declared their interest in other candidates is going to cause more harm than good to the Labour Party presidential candidate.

Omokri said, “When you raise issues about Tinubu, Obidients will flock to you and celebrate you, while Tinubu’s BATists will respectfully explain and persuade. But when you raise issues about Peter Obi, his Obidients will insult and threaten. Search your conscience. Am I lying?”

Judging from the reasons stated by the Obi supporters, certainly, the reactions by the Obi supporters is not without a cause. The current state of the nation ranging from the economy to every other aspect of the nation has been in shambles, hence, many people are venting by trying to ensure that no one goes anti-Peter, whom they have chosen as their messiah come 2023.

In a bid to ensure that the future of the nation is secured they have made themselves soldiers of the Peter Obi movement and defenders of whatever remnant left of the new Nigeria they love.

On this note the backlash people have been receiving has been without an atom of remorse as many cannot understand why anybody should support anyone who is not Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 Presidential election.

However Peter Obi, in a tweet has openly appealed to his supporters to be more tolerant of other peoples views and divergent opinions and also encouraged them to learn some things them if possible.

Going forward he urged them to look beyond the frustration currently bedeviling the nation and it’s citizens, and look for ways to channel all of their energy to positively in order to foster collaboration and support for others.

He looks forward to building more collaborations and has appealed to his supporters to help bring this into fruition by avoiding actions that could reduce their chances at scoring those collaborations.

He said, “I sincerely thank my supporters for believing in me and my commitment to building a united, secure and well-functioning Nigeria. However, I appeal once more that we should be tolerant of other people’s views, dissent and divergent opinions & possibly learn from them.

“While the frustration and anger in the country is understandable, we must strive to channel that energy positively in ways that will earn the support and collaboration of others.

Even as our message continues to gain broad acceptance, there are some we still need to work to convince. In expressing ourselves, we should do so with grace so as not to precipitately shut doors to future collaborations on sustainable nation-building,” Peter Obi said.
