Suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has been released from police custody after spending 10 days in police custody.
Ibrahim Magu was released after the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu directed one of his legal representatives, Tosin Ojaomo, to direct his bail applications to the Presidential panel probing his activities in office.
Mr Magu’s lawyer Tosin Ojaomo confirmed the release of the suspended EFCC boss.
Mr Oluwatosin Ojaomo, Magu’s legal representative, had asked the IGP to grant bail to his client on “self-recognisance” — after the suspended EFCC chief had spent four days in custody.
But in a letter dated July 14, 2020, and addressed to Mr Ojaomo, the IGP said the police force is not investigating and detaining Magu, so, it cannot grant the bail request.
It also advised the lawyer to redirect his request to the chairman of the presidential panel for appropriate attention.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Magu on Wednesday demanded a copy of the report of the Presidential Committee on Audit of Recovered Assets and a memo by the Attorney-General of the Federation to the President in which allegations were made against him.
Magu in a letter to the panel chairman, Justice Ayo Salami, dated July 15, 2020, explained that he had not seen the allegations and petitions leveled against him.
In the letter written by his lawyer, Wahab Shittu, Magu further stated that he was ready to respond to the allegations against him if provided the copy of the allegations.
