Tonye Cole edges past Obi Cubana, Elumelu and Adenuga to win “2022 Businessman of the Year” award

THE Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Mr. Tonye Cole has beaten big figures Obi Cubana, Tony Elumelu and Chief Mike Adenuga to clinch the “Businessman Of The Year” in the 2022 Leadership Excellence Awards.

Tonye Cole came first ahead of the final three nominees in the online poll done by Nigerians at home and in diaspora that lasted for fourteen days, according to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Cole had 57 percent of the votes with a total of 367,547 votes casr, while Obi Cubana had 166,458 votes, Tony Elumelu with 73,645 votes and Chief Mike Adenuga with 41,096 votes, respectively.

The River’s state governorship candidate is the co-founder and former Group Executive Director of Sahara Group, an energy conglomerate with operations spanning the entire energy chain in Nigeria and neighbouring West African countries to East Africa and beyond.

He was also a pioneer member of the advisory board of the Private Sector Advisory Group for the UNDP Sustainable Development Group Fund (SDG-F), The African Philanthropy Forum, amongst others.

The award, which is the fourth consecutive series, is an annual event that aims at recognizing and honouring leaders in Nigeria who have created impact in the public and private sector of the country.
