Comrade Patrick Ipidei, president of the Association of Presidential Amnesty Students worldwide, has described the rumor that the federal government intends to replace the pipeline surveillance contract recently awarded to some individuals in the Niger Delta with the Presidential Amnesty Programme as unfounded, malicious, and fabricated, and intended to stir up sentiment ahead of the upcoming general election.

Comrade Ipidei told reporters on Monday that the student body’s research concluded that the information was not authentic and urged stakeholders against spreading rumors.

According to him, this can undermine the public’s faith in the recently appointed Interim Administrator of the program, Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (rtd).

He emphasized that reports of replacing the pipeline monitoring contract with the Presidential Amnesty Programme might have a negative impact on the cordial connection between the federal government and the Niger Delta region’s inhabitants.

“How many times has such unfounded information that has absolutely no foundation, ignited the flames of war among communities, resulting in a great loss and injury to both sides. Rumors can cause chronic dissatisfaction leaving behind strained relationships and decreased commitment on the part of stakeholders in the region. The rumor in question is capable of threatening the peace in the Niger Delta,” he said
