Tobi Amusan among the finalists for Women’s World Athlete of the Year 2022 Awards

NIGERIAN track and World Champion, Oluwatobiloba Ayomide Amusan, has emerged amongst the five finalists for the Women’s World Athlete of the Year 2022 Awards.

This was disclosed in a terse statement issued by the World Athletics on Monday.

According to the World’s Athletics, a total of 1.3 million votes were cast online via emails using the social media platforms of the World’s Athletics.

Tobi Amusan’s emergence in the award shortlist is coming after she has made a remarkable year in 2022, where she set a record of 12.12 seconds in the 100m hurdles at the just concluded 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon.

She went on to become the first Nigerian and the first African to set this record.

The 24-year-old Amusan also bagged the African and Commonwealth titles still in the space of one year after defending her championship in the Diamond League.

Other finalists for the Award are: USA’s Sydney McLaughlin, Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela and Kimberly Garcia of Peru.

The winner of the Award will be unveiled on the official social media platforms of World Athletics in December.
