The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in Plateau stated that it would not back down on the adoption of BVAS in the general elections in 2023.

On Wednesday in Jos, the state electoral commissioner, Dr. Oliver Agundu, stated this during a meeting with party leaders and candidates.

Agundu remarked that the commission was prepared to conduct the state’s most credible and transparent elections ever.

“Let me bring to your notice that there is no going back on the use of BVAS for the 2023 general elections.

“Candidates should not deceive themselves but concentrate their energy on campaigns to canvass for votes, as everything will be transparent and in fairness to all parties.

“I want to also assure you that we are ready to deliver the most credible and transparent elections the state has ever witnessed,” he said.

Agundu urged all parties to acquire information from official sources within the commission rather than relying on assumptions and hearsay.

He stated that rumors and fake news were lethal weapons that might cause chaos and unrest, particularly in a politically charged country like Nigeria.

The commissioner admonished politicians not to visit his home or other unofficial locations, but rather to do business at his commission office.

He urged the public to come for their PVCs to collect them at INEC facilities because the overall collection rate was really low.

Agundu stated that, in an effort to alleviate the arduous process of collecting PVCs, the commission will distribute the cards to villages and wards to make the process more manageable, while also requesting the assistance of non-governmental organizations to make the process seamless.

Dr. Patrick Dakum, the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate, praised the commission for holding the meeting and pledged trouble-free amicable campaigns.

Dakum promised to encourage their followers to collect their PVCs throughout election campaigns so that they may vote.

According to the Nigerian News Agency newsmen, the PDP, APGA, and LP, among others, were present at the meeting, while the ruling APC was conspicuously absent.
