Following the kidnapping of two of its members, Dr. Omini and Dr. Egong, on November 18th along the Calabar-Ikom Highway, Okomita-Uyanga axis (Akampka) in the state, the Nigerian Medical Association, Cross River state, has declared a complete and indefinite strike.

The choice, according to Vanguard, was made at a late-night emergency general meeting on Sunday in Calabar.

After discussions about the issue at hand, members unanimously decided to activate strike procedure, according to a release signed by the association’s chairman and secretary, Drs. Felix Archibong and Etim Amaku, and provided to Newsmen.

They claimed that with the implementation of the recently reviewed “Strike Protocol,” which gives the NMA-CRS 48 hours to negotiate the unconditional release of their kidnapped member or dependent, they will be forced to strike completely and indefinitely at the EGM until they are freed.

Therefore, NMA-CRS has initiated a Total and Indefinite Strike, which will begin this evening, November 20, 2022.

that the strike is complete and permanent, and that anyone who violates it will be fined as a result

“The government should as a matter of urgency provide Security Patrols and Check points on that axis of the road where the risk is greater and as a matter of urgency, commence the repairs of that section of the road to prevent attacks on vehicles who reduce their speed to be able to go through the bad roads.

“We are not oblivious of the hardship these decisions may cause to it’s members and the general public, hence we call on all relevant security agencies to ensure the timely and safe release of our abducted colleagues,” they stated.

Remember that the kidnappers had reportedly summoned the families of the doctors in their home and demanded a whopping 100 million naira for their release, as vanguard has earlier reported.
