Two well-known Iranian actresses were detained by the authorities for openly supporting the two-month-old anti-government demonstrations.

According to the reports, Hengameh Ghaziani and Katayoun Riahi were detained after being suspected of conspiring and subverting Iranian authorities, as reported by the Irna news agency in Iran.

Before being detained, Ghaziani and Riahi were seen in the open without their headscarves as a show of support for the protesters.

Since Mahsa Amini, 22, died while in police detention on September 17, the nation has been dealing with protests.

Amini was imprisoned by the morality police in Tehran, the country’s capital, for allegedly violating the stringent hijab laws. Three days later, on September 16, she passed away.

Police denied that she was mistreated and said that she had a heart attack. However, there were claims that they had struck her with a baton and hit her head against a car.

The numerous award-winning actresses Ghaziani and Riahi were arrested on Sunday at the request of Iran’s prosecutor’s office, according to Irna, as the country’s demonstrations remained far from ending.

Ghaziani posted on social media before being taken into custody, saying, “Whatever happens, know that as always, I will stand with the people of Iran.”

“This may be my last post,” she added.

Several prominent Iranian public personalities, including the actresses, have publicly stated their support for the demonstrators who are holding demonstrations against the country’s religious regime.
