During a joint operation in the Irele-Kogi border region of Ekiti state, the Joint Task Force, JTF, comprised of combined personnel from the Military, Police, Amotekun Corps, and Local Hunters, apprehended two suspect kidnappers, according to the JTF.

Under operation Eradicate Bandit at the Borders of Rural Ajoni Communities, EBBORAC, the joint troops recovered a portion of the N3 million collected from the victims.

The Chairman of Ajoni LCDA, Hon. Michael Ogungbemi, told reporters in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday that the suspects were apprehended during a combined operation in the dense woodland along the Irele-Kogi boundary.

The fact that the kidnappers swiftly rescued three victims from captivity which provided a lead for the JTF to continue with the combing operation of the forests in the axis, according to Ogungbemi.

He said,  “When they knew that the operation was closing in on them, three victims in their possession were suddenly released this afternoon. This further provided a lead for the operation.

He said,  “When they knew that the operation was closing in on them, three victims in their possession were suddenly released this afternoon. This further provided a lead for the operation. “Part of the ransom collected from the victims were recovered and the released victims are now in the hospital receiving medical treatments.

“The JTF also succeeded in apprehending two suspects, who are now undergoing interrogation and investigation by the police.”

Last week, a school principal, two teachers, and a nurse were kidnapped from Irele- Ekiti in the Ajoni Local Council Development Area of Ekiti State and brought to an unidentified location by gun-wielding abductors.

Three of the abductees were allegedly released after the ransom of N3 million was paid, while the fourth evaded his kidnappers.

Brigadier General Joe Komolafe, commandant of the Amotekun Corps in Ekiti State, also confirmed the detention.

Akomolafe noted that those who have been arrested are now in police custody, while those who have been released have gotten proper medical care at the hospital.

“I can confirm to you that two suspects arrested are being held by the police. Regarding the freed victims, they were initially taken to the hospital, but they have reunited with their respective families,” he said.
