International Day of Peace – In line with the mission to foster and maintain a society free from social vices and embrace the privileges of peace, the United Nations marked the 21st of September as the International Day of Peace.

To commemorate this day the Peace Corp of Nigeria Lagos Command, in collaboration with the Association of Humble and Obedient Youths organized an outreach to sensitize the general public on the day and its significance to fostering and promoting peace.

Present at the event was Ambassador Kuforiji Olanrewaju, the Commandant of the Lagos State Peace Corps of Nigeria. In his statement, while responding to reporters said ” We are here to enforce peace to make sure that peace is in all our community and as well in Nigeria as a whole”.

Also present at the event was the representative of the Association of Humble and Obedient Youths Mr Timothy Adegunle. During his remark to newsmen, Mr. Adegunle said “Situations and realities in our society at the moment call for the fact that we need to work and harmonize every framework for peace”.

The Assistant National Commandant of Operations for the Peace Corps of Nigeria Badmus Akim in his speech advocated for peace and encouraged Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence and cultivate tolerance towards one another.

“When the Youths are not guided properly it becomes a problem and that is why Peace Corps Nigeria is using this medium, especially International Peace Day to bring the youths together, to preach peace which is in line with the International Peace Day celebration which is action for peace and global action” Commandant Badmus stated.

The Peace Corps aims to orientate the youths on nation building and the act of patriotism because the organization believes that when the youths are at peace with themselves there will be peace in the community.

There is pace in Lagos State and Peace Corps of Nigeria has been doing a lot to promote peace among all voluntary youth organizations” said Mr. Julius.

The NSCDC lending its voice to the event through Dapo Fasae, Deputy Commandant NSCDC, Lagos State Command supports the motion that peace is everybody’s business and all security agencies will receive the collaboration of the Civil Defence to ensure that there is a holistic approach to bringing about peace in our society.
