The University of Benin Staff School in Edo State has been renovated by comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma who has stated his reasons for doing so.

Bovi said in a lengthy post on his Instagram page on Tuesday that he had always given the primary school credit for his current successes.

He claimed that he was compelled to repair the 20-classroom block, two staff rooms, and one library after becoming quite saddened by the plight of the facilities.

The reconstruction included: Rewiring, lavatory reconstruction, classroom fan replacement, and classroom painting were all part of the project.

Bovi wrote, “Those who know me well know how I have always given credit to my primary school for what I have become. I consider my foundational path fortunate because I had the best teachers on my route from kindergarten to primary 5. They were so good that I remember all of them by name to this day.

“It was a prestigious institution sitting on a hectare of land. That’s triple the size of many learning institutions today. It was a school with international standards that only a few private schools can boast of today.

“So you can imagine my sadness when I visited the institution and saw the degenerative state of the facilities. I broke inside. Hence I spent the last three months painstakingly seeing the renovation of the 20 classroom block, 2 staff rooms and 1 library. In this building, I spent my final years (primaries 4 and 5).”

Bovi thanked Philip Shuaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State, in another post for squeezing the commissioning into his tight schedule. Twelve hours before it opened, he learned about it and made a commitment to go.

He also expressed his gratitude for the efforts made by Professor Lilian Salami, vice chancellor of UNIBEN, and his colleague’s comedians I Go Die and I Go Save.

Francis Agoda, also known as I Go Dye, a colleague of his, posted images and videos from the inauguration on his Instagram profile on Monday.

He captioned the post, “Today I accompany my brother #officialbovi in commissioning this project. It’s really inspiring to remember one’s humble beginning and give back to nurture it. Bovi has shown a great sense of purpose and gratitude by renovating this magnificent educational project, his primary school, University of Benin Staff School this will inspire the younger generation in years to come.”
