Ecuador beats host Qatar in World Cup opening match

Host of the 2022 World Cup, Qatar, failed to win their opening match in the tournament today as they lost one nill to Ecuador, making them the first host country to lose in an opening match of the FIFA World Cup.

A brace from Enner Valencia, the captain of Ecuador secured a win for the Ecuadorian side.

Meanwhile, Ecuador would have scored more in the first half of the game to sink the ship of the Maroon of Qatar, but their first goal was rules out by Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for an offside, denying Valencia an offside.

With a win over Qatar, Ecuador is the leader of their group with three points until Netherlands will play Senegal on Monday.
