HotsElemental Releasing on Disney+ Hotstar on September 13 in India. Pixar’s latest animated film, set in a bustling metropolis where anthropomorphic aspects of nature live and breathe like regular humans, will be released in India 82 days after its slightly delayed cinema debut on June 23.
The film was released a week early, on June 16, in the United States and internationally, resulting in an 89-day gap. That’s one day less than the 90-day timeframe Disney established for its new films, a figure that has been exaggerated over time in order to force more people into theaters and encourage more VoD purchases; in reality, Elemental is still being shown in select theaters across India.
Elemental will be available in only two languages in India: English and Hindi, maintaining Disney’s trend of poor localization for films that aren’t part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or as significant as Avatar: The Way of Water.
Previously, animated films had a 30-day window before being available on streaming services, which now appears to have increased dramatically across the entire Disney repertoire, independent of box office performance. Despite mixed reviews that commended its graphics but criticized its narrative, Elemental has grossed $480.2 million worldwide, making it the ninth-highest-grossing film of the year.

Elemental City’s funny fictitious metro is a location where humanoid versions of fire, water, land, and earth coexist. Our attention is drawn to the growing romance between Ember, a fiery young woman, and Wade, a cool, go-with-the-flow guy embodying the liquid element. They clearly aren’t supposed to be together, which the film emphasizes by portraying every aspect as unhappy, mismatched neighbors — sort of a racial allegory represented by wacky, anthropomorphic beings.
Elemental, like every other Disney animated film, has a lingering subject of finding one’s purpose, which in Ember’s case is to not inherit or run her father’s restaurant. Peter Sohn, who previously directed The Good Dinosaur, directs the picture.
In addition to the main Elemental feature, September 13 brings to Disney+ Hotstar the making-of documentary Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental and the animated short film Carl’s Date based on 2009’s Up. It follows the elderly Carl Fredricksen (Ed Asner), who unwillingly agrees to go on a date at the urging of his dog Dug, only to discover that he has no idea how dating works nowadays. The short film, which marked one of Asner’s final performances before his death in 2021, was shown in theaters with Elemental.
Elemental will be available on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar on September 13th. The film will be released in both English and Hindi in India.
