Nigerian and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has revealed his high anticipations to play against his former team, Liverpool, in October when the two teams will meet each other in the Premier League clash for the first time in 23 years.

The Nottingham forward ply his trade at Liverpool for six years, between 2015 and 2021, but his career at Anfield was more on loans, due to his inability to gain a work permit after he signed for the Reds from Imperial Soccer Academy for a fee of £400,000.

Although Awoniyi finally received a work permit last year after a wonderful season in the Bundesliga with Union Berlin, he moved from Liverpool to join the Union Berlin on a full-time basis, with the Reds getting £6.5 million for a player, even though he didn’t play a single game at Anfield.

Despite his hard times at Liverpool being limited due to challenges of being unable to get a work permit, Awoniyi scored on his home debut for Nottingham Forest and he is high spirited to play against his former side when the two sides meet at the City Ground on October 22.

When interviewed by SuperSportTV on which team he anticipates to play against this season, Awoniyi said: “For me to be honest, I’ll say Liverpool because I’ve been there before.”

He added: “I know some of the players there. I’d be very excited to play against them.”
