Alexander Iwobi, an Everton midfielder, was in outstanding form on Sunday, helping Everton defeat West Ham 1-0 at Goodison Park.
The 26-year-old set up Neal Maupay’s goal, giving Everton the game’s lone goal and ending their six-game losing streak—their longest stretch without a league victory since 2010–11.
With this assist, the Nigerian midfielder now has three this year.
Since manager Frank Lampard joined the Toffees, Iwobi has been in excellent form.
The former Arsenal midfielder responded to his performance, which won him the match’s Man of the Match award, by saying, “I’ve always had the mindset that I can try to prove people wrong. The manager has given me faith to do so, and how to express myself as I always do in training.”

Frank Lampard, for his part, expressed his joy at the victory. Lampard expressed joy at the victory and praised the fans’ fervor.
“The reality is we have worked hard this season and deserved more. Our fans are amazing. To hold on, fight, dig in, we showed a lot of parts. We will get better. This team has to be a reflection of the fans. The passion of the fans, they demand things and they’d better see them. We have players who can deliver those characters,” Lampard said.
“Hopefully our football can get even better, the fans are happy. Nobody is getting carried away. At the moment there is a decent feeling around the place.”
Iwobi is one of the 25 players that Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has selected for the upcoming international exhibition match against Algeria on September 27 in Oran, Algeria.
