Kogi Governor approves N8 billion for university projects, covering key infrastructure for Kogi State University in Kabba.

The Kogi State Government, under Governor Ahmed Ododo, has announced a significant investment in education, approving ₦8 billion for infrastructural development at Kogi State University, Kabba. This decision aligns with the state’s commitment to advancing education and addressing the needs of its newly established university.

Commitment to Educational Infrastructure

During a press briefing in Lokoja, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, disclosed the details of this initiative. The allocated funds will finance the construction of a Senate building, a Faculty of Science building, and male and female hostels. Contractors have reportedly been mobilized, with construction set to commence within two weeks.

Jones emphasized the administration’s dedication to education, continuing the strides made under former Governor Yahaya Bello. “Governor Ododo is resolved to maintain and even surpass the 30% budgetary allocation to education,” he stated.

In addition to the ₦8 billion investment, the state government has approved ₦316 million in bursary awards for 8,750 Kogi State students studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. Each of the 201 Law students among this group will receive ₦300,000, while other students will receive ₦30,000.

The initiative, aimed at easing the financial burden on students, comes as part of Governor Ododo’s broader education strategy. According to Hon. Jones, 18,734 students in public secondary schools will also benefit from ₦600 million allocated to cover WAEC fees, underlining the administration’s commitment to inclusive educational opportunities.

By funding both infrastructure and direct student support, the Kogi government showcases its dual focus on improving access to education and enhancing the learning environment for its citizens.

Future Prospects

These investments are expected to bolster the quality of education within the state, providing students with modern facilities and financial relief. Governor Ododo’s administration continues to prioritize education as a cornerstone for sustainable development in Kogi State.
