The 24 Taskforce Brigade in Dikwa town working under the Joint Military Taskforce Operation Hadinkai in the North East has lifted the ban on the use of bicycles by residents of Dikwa Local Government.

The ban was earlier imposed by the military following the killings of 23 scrap metal collectors in Mukdala village by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

23 scrap metal scavengers also know as ‘Ajaokuta’ were ambushed and killed by some suspected Boko Haram insurgents on June 6, and a ban was imposed on the use of bicycles in the area in other to contain the situation as part of security measures.

The decision to lift the ban was disclosed by the Commander of the Brigade, Brigadier General M L S Gulani, during a security stakeholders meeting convened in Dikwa.

The meeting was to review the present situation on ground with considerations on how to avoid future reoccurrence and ensure the safety of the people.

Also, General Gulani during the meeting reiterated that the act of scavenging by scrap metal scavengers remained banned while farmers could go to their farms between 8am and 3pm pending the improvement of security in the area.

He added that the ban on the use of bicycles had been lifted with the condition and directive that people could ride within five to 10 kilometres.

The commander urged the people of the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement to security operatives.

On his part, the Chairman of Dikwa LGA, Alhaji Modu Gumsuma, charged the people to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agents in the area and to continue praying for the return of permanent peace.
