The designer of the Nigerian flag, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, was today laid to rest after a year-long wait for a state funeral that was promised by the government.
The funeral service which was organised by the Government of Oyo State, took place at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan, and was well attended by a great number of top Nigerian, families and friends.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian legend, Akinkunmi, who was also known as “Mr. Flag Man,” died at the age of 87.
His design of the national flag earned him an award of £100 in 1958 and his legacy still lives on.
