Today, history has been created as the Nigeria’s Flamingoes have beaten the US to reach their first-ever semifinals at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria won 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes of regulation time to qualify for the semifinals.

Before the game, The Americans were picked as the favourites for the game, but, the play changed its tempo as Onamuzo Edafe scored the first goal of the game in the 25th minutes to give Nigeria a lead in the encounter.

Villarreal’s striker, Amalia Martina levelled up for the Americans in the 40th minute just before half time.

Both teams started the second half trying to get a second goal with the US dominating much of the encounter. But a goal never came resulting in a penalty shootout to decide who goes into the semi-final.

Nigeria will now play the winner of the game ( which will hold on Saturday) between Colombia and Tanzania on Wednesday, October 26th, 2022.
