Following a vote of confidence in the Sen. Iyorchia Ayu-led National Working Committee, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has left PDP leaders guessing about his upcoming move.

As a condition for peace, Wike and those who supported his cause sought Ayu’s resignation.

Tuesday in Abuja, Vanguard reported that the Wike camp has yet to make it clear when it will be open to seeing emissaries from the party leadership.

According to a source in the camp who spoke with our correspondent in confidence, “As of right now, no date has been set for the meeting. Many of our members have traveled outside of the country for various engagements.

“Besides, our demands are with the other side while we are not opposed to any genuine effort towards peace, we are no longer available to be deceived.”

Last week, Ayu asked Sen. Adolphus Wabara, the newly elected chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, and other party officials for help in contacting Wike to try and reach an amicable resolution to a disagreement that stems from the party’s presidential primary and the choice of Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State, as the vice presidential running mate.

While appealing to Wabara for his help, Ayu said, “As the new BoT Chairman with diplomatic experience. We implore you to use your diplomatic skills to reach out to all aggrieved members and I am telling you that it is with our full support including that of the Presidential candidate and Vice-Presidential Candidate who called me 30 minutes before we got here.

“You have our support. The entire BoT should select and reach out to them. We are appealing that they should come back and let us work together.
The PDP chairman equally announced the decision of the NWC to send a high-powered delegation of its members to visit Port Harcourt to continue the interface.

Alhaji Illiya Damagun, the party’s deputy national chairman for the north, was given charge of managing the group. Co-opting other party leaders to participate in the peace process is also planned.

High-ranking party official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said,  “We are willing and ready to get this whole thing behind us but we have yet to get a definite date and time but we remain hopeful it will happen this week.”
