Cardinal Okpaleke

His Holiness, Pope Francis, has today announced the appointment of His Eminence, Peter Ebere Cardinal Okpaleke, as a member of the Dicastery for Laity, the Family and Life.

According to the Vatican, the appointment of Cardinal Okpaleke was among some recently created Cardinals to be members of different dicasteries of the Roman Curia.

This appointment was disclosed in a terse statement issued on Saturday by Fr Mike Umoh, the National Director of Social Communications, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja.

The statement read: “The Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life was established by Pope Francis on 15 August 2016 with the ‘Motu Proprio’ ‘Sedula Mater’, which describes the responsibilities and functions that previously pertained to the Pontifical Council for the Laity and the Pontifical Council for the Family.”

Cardinal Okpaleke’s appointment comes as a new role amongst other Cardinals who were appointed by the Vatican

Cardinal Okpaleke made it to the list of the 20 prelates who were inducted into the College of Cardinals by Pope Francis on August 27.
