Senegal saw a disappointing start in their opening game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Netherlands as two late goals from Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaassen sank the Senegalese ship on Monday at Al-Thumama Stadium in Doha.

Senegal played without their star player and African Best Player, Sadio Mane who was ruled out of the tournament for an injury.

PSV Eindhoven forward, Gakpo found the back of the net in just six minutes to the end of the game, with a cross from Frenkie de Jong, which beat pass Senegal and Chelsea’s shot stopper, Edouard Mendy.

Just in few minutes to the final whistle, Klaassen, who came in as a substitute scored a second for the Dutch side to take the goals to two at full time.

Netherlands and Ecuador are now toppers of the group after Ecuador won 2-0 against hosts Qatar in the opening match of the tournament on Sunday.

Senegal’s next match will be against Qatar, while Netherlands will play Ecuador on Friday.
