WhatsApp, the Meta-owned instant messaging app, is once again cooking up a new update that will help users have a smoother user experience. According to a recent report, WhatsApp for Android is set to allow users to edit contact details without having to leave the app. This new feature will make it easier for users to manage their contacts and update their information without the need to switch between different apps.

Following news of the Android version’s updated app UI, WhatsApp is now said to be rolling out an update that could help with saving contact details. Reports have it that the feature has been spotted in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android and may eventually make it to the stable build. When users tap on the New Contact option, a new UI is said to appear. While saving new contact information, users will now see a UI similar to that of Google’s Contacts app, according to the report.

Aside from their name and phone number, users will reportedly be able to enter additional information such as birthdays, email addresses, and more. According to the report, once the details are entered, the user will be given the option of saving the contact locally on the device or on the Google account linked to the device. When saving a new contact, this feature may eliminate the need to exit WhatsApp and go to the Contacts app.

WhatsApp is reportedly testing the feature on the following Android beta versions: 2.23.8.2, 2.23.8.4, 2.23.8.5, and 2.23.8.6. This feature is already available in the iOS version; only the Android version has yet to receive it.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp for Android is said to be testing a new navigation bar UI. The user interface is said to be similar to that seen on the iOS version. The navigation bar is at the bottom of the iOS app, whereas it has been at the top of the Android app for years. The new UI should be visible to those using the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.4.

Currently, if a user wants to edit a contact’s details in WhatsApp for Android, they must first navigate to their phone’s contact list, make the necessary changes, and then return to WhatsApp. Users will be able to edit a contact’s details directly from the app with this new feature.

This new feature will be especially useful for people who frequently update their contacts, such as business owners or individuals who frequently change phone numbers or email addresses.

It’s worth noting that WhatsApp has yet to officially announce this feature, and it’s unclear when it will be available. However, it is expected to be a welcome addition to the app’s functionality for Android users.
