In Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State in South-East Nigeria, supporters of the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi were tear-gassed by police operatives during their rally for Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 general elections.

It is reported that members and their supporters were earlier gathered along Mile 50 Road to commence their rally to canvass support for their candidate but were stopped from going into the streets.

One of the supporters who is identified as Nwali Ikechukwu noted that some of the supporters were injured when the security agency started dispersing them.

The supporters however went on with their rally despite the attempts by the police to stop them.

From the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), campaigns for the 2023 general elections are to commence on the 28th of September, 2022.
