In line with Ogun State government’s directive that worship centres should reopen for regular services starting from Friday 14th August, Christian faithfuls in the state trouped out in their numbers on Sunday 16th August to fellowship together, five months after religious centres were closed to stop the further spread of covid-19 pandemic.
Swagenews moved round some churches in ijebu area of Ogun State to observe the mood of brethren and as well monitor level of compliance at places of worship.
At churches visited, various inscriptions hanged at strategic positions were signs of preparedness on part of the fellowship centres to comply with government’s protocols. Inscriptions like “No face mask, no entry”, Social distancing, stay away stay save” among others caught the attention of our crew.
Worshipers at the Redeemed Christians Church of God (RCCG) Shilo Arena, Ijebu Ode on arrival were screened by medical team before gaining entrance into the church. The believers after having their temperature checked, proceeded to wash and sanitize their hands before entering the auditorium.

Same level of compliance was in place at Anglican Christ Church Porogun, Saint Sebastian Catholic Church Odo Egbo and Christ Apostolic Church Osinubi.

At Living Faith Church Osimore and Mount Jieaworrar Church, strict compliance was also recorded.
Christians who observed social distancing in their sitting positions and dressed beautifully were expressed thanks giving to God, saying they feel excited that churches were reopened.
“every body feels glad for the church being opened, especially on my side, I feel very grateful to God” said Elijah Quadri.
Members of Mount Jieawowrrar Church Ijebu ode danced in appreciation to God. The minister in charge of the the church, Bishop Olukayode Awonuga advised the congregation and body of Christ as a whole to run away from sin.
“And the sin started from being compliant with the rules and regulations that the government gave us that the service should not be more than one and half hours and we should maintain social distancing, have your facemask and some other aspects of it” the cleric said.
The first service that marked the reopening of the church afforded members opportunity to raise their voices to God to wipe out the pandemic from Nigeria and the world at large.
The turn out was impressive in all the churches visited.
