THE headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State, which is located along Port Harcourt road in Owerri, the capital of Imo, has been attacked by hoodlums who also burnt down the building in the early hours of Monday.
The attack, which is said to have taken place around 2am, affected areas covering some parts of the main building and the Election and Political Party Monitoring Liason office.
Speaking about the attack, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of INEC in Imo, Chinenye Chijioke-Osuji, confirmed that: “It happened. You can come and see things for yourself. Not all the offices were attacked but one side was completely down. The Election and Political Party Monitoring Liason, building was attacked and part of the main building.”
Meanwhile, apart from the affected buildings and offices, the hoodlums are said to have also burnt down vehicles during the attack.
Three of the hoodlums are also said to have been shot down and their arms retrieved from them by the Police who had the scene to engage in a shooting battle with the hoodlums.
