Yes, Meta reveals its AI powers to Indian Instagram and Messenger users. This reveal was made last week. Meta AI Chatbot made its Indian debut when a few users saw it on the WhatsApp app.
Recently, Meta AI has also begun to appear for certain individuals in the nation on Messenger and Instagram. The general-purpose chatbot, driven by Llama, can write essays, generate graphics, respond to queries in natural language, and perform a host of other tasks. The Meta AI chatbot appears as a pink-hued blue ring in the Instagram DM search field.
However, it seems there’s restricted access to the AI-powered chatbot, as several users have reported not being able to use it.
An official from Meta verified to TechCrunch that the new feature was being tested in portions of Africa and India. The statement said, “Our generative AI-powered experiences are under development in varying phases, and we’re testing a range of them publicly in a limited capacity.”

With this update, India now has access to all the main AI chatbots, which include ChatGPT from OpenAI, Google Gemini, Copilot from Microsoft, Claude from Anthropic, the Perplexity AI search engine, and the Meta AI.
In September 2023, the social media behemoth introduced the chatbot, but it was only accessible in the US and a few other countries. Until now, India was unable to use the AI assistance.
Meta’s AI Features
Meta AI is a generalist chatbot, meaning it can handle a variety of tasks. Furthermore, it is capable of generating images, which currently ranks it as the second publicly accessible chatbot behind Copilot (Google has disabled Gemini’s ability to create photos). Keeping to the text-only characteristics, Meta AI can compose essays, analyze data, translate and create text, summarise lengthy text passages, answer queries, and even help with coding-related activities. Because the AI chatbot is connected to the Internet through Bing, it is also capable of providing real-time information.
With the help of OpenAI’s DALL-E, Meta AI is also capable of producing visuals. You must write “Imagine” after the forward slash and the desired prompt to create an image. Write something like “/imagine a sunflower garden and kids playing around it,” for instance. But be aware that the chatbot cannot accommodate requests for pictures of actual people. In addition, an “Imagined with Meta” watermark will be added to every image produced by Meta to help identify it from the original photos.
