A new leak as confirmed by tech sources suggests a Maps location-sharing feature.
Pixel’s new satellite feature could show your Google Maps location according to industry insiders AssembleDebug who shared his findings with PiunikaWeb and Nail Sadykov over Telegram.
Recent leaks suggest Google is adding satellite connectivity to Pixel phones and possibly supporting it in Google Maps. The former will allow users to share their whereabouts via satellite.
Strings of code on the most recent Google Maps beta revealed hints of the location-sharing feature. The precise mechanics of it are unknown. There is not much detail in the report. To preserve accuracy, users “will be able to update their location” on the app every fifteen minutes, according to the statement. There’s a catch, though: you can only “up to five times a day” refresh your location. Naturally, Google would impose limitations of some kind.
Similar to the iPhone’s Emergency SOS feature, this is meant to be a life-saving emergency tool, hence Google might not want anyone to tamper with it.
How to Set up a Satellite Connection
Regarding the other upgrade, Nail Sadykov claims to have discovered proof of an object known as the Android Satellite Pointing UI.
It looks to be a Pixel help guide that explains how users can link their phone to an orbiting satellite. A video demonstrating the potential procedure was uploaded to the Telegram channel of the unauthorized Google News.
To locate a satellite, users will need to:
- Physically move and hold their phone in front of them.
- Once located, you must continue to move the device until an on-screen circle is filled with a blue satellite icon that remains there for a few seconds.
- The device can connect when you hold the icon in place.
- You’ll see an on-screen notification informing you that the session failed if you are unable to connect.
Sadykov continues, stating that the instruction will be included in the “Adaptive Connectivity Service (ACS) app” for the Pixel. It’s unclear if he was referring to the feature that’s already available or to the possibility of a new app made only for ACS.

He claims that you will be able to dismiss the window and turn it into a floating widget on the home screen, allowing you to keep messaging and trying to connect with someone. Pixel owners can swipe down on Quick Settings to see Satellite SOS operating once it’s all finished. To maintain a clear view of the sky and prevent service interruptions, you will also notice a brief notice in the menu advising you to stay away from mountains, trees, and buildings.
Anticipated Arrival Date
It’s unclear when everything you see above will be available, but according to both sources, each feature will debut on the Pixel 9. The two groups make reference to a third leak from April 15 that suggests the Samsung Modem 5400, which enables satellite connectivity, may be included in the Pixel 9 series.
The prior report contained the identical satellite icon—albeit a red one—and the guide animations from Sadykov’s post. The identical sign is mentioned by PiunikaWeb as well.
Thus, at least theoretically, what we’re witnessing now may be the result of this fresh effort. Nothing is set in stone and might alter at any time. Take this information with a grain of salt, please.
